Historia Plantarum Collection

The Historia Plantarum Collection is devoted to the history of botany and medicine, with a particular focus on the Old World and medicinal plants. Among the fields covered are botany in Antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, botanical illustration in manuscript and printed books, the history of medicine and pharmacy, and the history of natural sciences. It is open and accessible to Smithsonian staff, as well as to qualified individuals with bona fide research need.
