Inspiring innovation from tradition

Ancient Medical Library

The researchers of the Institute locate in libraries old handwritten and early printed books that record ancient medical practice. They digitize them and complement their images with relevant data. In so doing, they create a virtual library that is freely available on the Internet.

Art of Healing Collection

Texts in ancient medical books are difficult to read, particularly if they have been written by hand. Researchers and collaborators in the Institute transcribe the texts of the old books in the Ancient Medical Library by digitizing them in the original language. In so doing, they transform these texts into digital files and make them available for reading and consultation through the Internet.

Materia Medica Database

The substance of the ancient medical texts of the Art of Healing Collection is extracted and recorded in a set of analytical tables constituting the Materia Medica Database that allows for retrieval of information by plant and by medical condition.
