Alain Touwaide and Emanuela Appetiti will be at Bastyr University, Kenmore, WA, for the period May 14-19, 2012.
The year 2012 is particularly important for Bastyr University, as it marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Dr. John Bastyr (1912-1995), after whom the University was named, when it was created in 1978.
The yearlong Centennial Celebration Program to honor Dr. Bastyr's life and legacy, includes seminars, concerts, public lectures, conferences, receptions, herbs and food fairs, and much more. The Institute for the Preservation of Medical Traditions is proud to be part of this program and to contribute to some of the scientific activities.
Among the major events is a public lecture to be delivered by Alain Touwaide, on Thursday, May 17th, 2012, which will illustrate the past one hundred years of botanical medicine. Touwaide is Bastyr University's first visiting scholar through the William A. Mitchell, ND, Endowment Fund. The day after, Friday, May 18th, he will deliver another public talk with Emanuela Appetiti, and will discuss ways to integrate tradition into contemporary practice.
They will be on campus for the whole week, and will deliver classes and seminars on history of botany, medicine, pharmacy and ethnobotany, with a particular focus on the uses of plants in the ancient Mediterranean Basin.
